The British Board of Imams & Scholars (BBSI) is dedicated to supporting Imams and religious scholars across the United Kingdom. Our primary objective is to provide a robust network and comprehensive resources that empower Imams in their vital roles within the community.
National Imams Union
BBSI is proud to announce its intention to establish a National Imams Union. This union aims to:
- Advocate for Imams: Represent the interests of Imams at both local and national levels, ensuring their voices are heard in policy-making and community affairs.
- Provide Professional Development: Offer continuous professional development opportunities, including training, workshops, and seminars, to enhance the skills and knowledge of Imams.
- Foster Collaboration: Create a platform for Imams to connect, share experiences, and collaborate on community projects and initiatives.
- Support Well-being: Address the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of Imams through dedicated support services and resources.
- Promote Standards: Establish and uphold high standards of practice and conduct for Imams, ensuring the delivery of ethical and effective religious guidance.
- Resource Sharing: Develop a repository of resources, including educational materials, sermons, and best practices, to assist Imams in their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Community Engagement: Encourage and facilitate the active involvement of Imams in broader community engagement, fostering stronger relationships and mutual understanding between different community groups.
Employment and Working Conditions
The National Imams Union also focuses on improving the employment conditions of Imams, including:
- Wage and Salary Support: Advocate for fair and competitive wages and salaries for Imams, ensuring their financial stability and recognising their critical role within the community.
- Employment Contracts: Assist in developing and negotiating clear and comprehensive employment contracts that outline the roles, responsibilities, and benefits for Imams, providing job security and transparency.
- Work Environment Improvement: Collaborate with mosques to create a better working environment for Imams. This includes establishing best practices for mosque management, enhancing communication, and promoting mutual respect between Imams and mosque management.
- Work-Life Balance: Promote initiatives that support a healthy work-life balance for Imams, including reasonable working hours, adequate leave, and personal development opportunities.
One objective is establishing a national waqf fund to support imams and scholars.
