Three Leading Muslim Organisations Unite to Provide Guidance on Conversion Therapy: What Muslims Should Know

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Three Leading Muslim Organisations Unite to Provide Guidance on Conversion Therapy: What Muslims Should Know

London/Edinburgh/Cardiff – [8 March, 2024 ]

For the very first time in history, three leading Muslim Organisations – The British Board of Scholars & Imams (BBSI), The Muslim Council of Scotland (MCS), and The Muslim Council of Wales – have joined forces to provide comprehensive guidance on the sensitive issue of conversion therapy.

This groundbreaking collaboration underscores the unity and solidarity within the Muslim community in the UK and represents a historic milestone in addressing policy matters of significant importance.

The guidance released today serves as an educational resource for the Muslim community, offering clarity and insight into the proposed ban on ‘conversion therapy practices.’ It reflects the collective efforts of our organisations to uphold Islamic principles while addressing concerns surrounding coercion and respect for individual autonomy.

Our organisations are deeply committed to providing educational resources that align with Islamic teachings and values. We recognise the importance of safeguarding children and adults from any form of coercion, and we unequivocally endorse the protection of human rights and dignity for all individuals.
